Tavern of Legends Empires and Puzzles Guide UPDATED

Tavern of Legends Guide - Empires & Puzzles
Tavern of Legends in Empires and Puzzles is an interesting event to play, and it makes Heroes of the Month available through its Legends Summons portal.  It also is the only place you can summon the Mystery Event hero Myztero.

When it was initially unveiled in May 2020, this event was controversial.  On the one hand, it is a lot of fun to play, and plan out your teams for each stage. It also provides a use for all those unlevelled 5* heroes you may have sitting on your bench.  On the other hand, a lot of players have been critical of the summons portal structure. Then, in August 2020 the summon portal was adjusted, meeting some of those player concerns. With the September 2020 the summon portal added in the current hero of the month, bringing the Legends Summon in line with other event summons in the game. Update: a further improvement was made in November 2020, increasing the appearance of Legendary past HotM.

This guide to the Tavern of Legends quest provides tips and tricks for completing the event, and also on the summons portal that comes with it.

Video: Final Stage & Free Coin Pulls

For this one I played the final stage with Killhare and Garnet in a 4-1 Purple/Dark team, and then did my free coin pulls:

Use a Hero, Lose A Hero in Each Taverns of Legends Stage

The Tavern of Legends event has 10 stages total.  You play each stage once, like in seasonal events. However, unlike any other event in Empires & Puzzles, you can only use a particular hero one time.  That means you need at least 40 heroes to complete the event, and you need to plan out your teams for each stage.  You do not really lose heroes, but once you use one, you cannot use it again in the event.

Hero Roster Mastery

The event has a special rule called "Hero Roster Mastery", which appears in an in-game tool tip:
  • Each Hero can only be used once during this quest.
  • Heroes are considered used when you start a quest battle. The battles will get increasingly difficult, so plan your Teams carefully!
If you fail a stage and need to re-play it, the heroes you used in your first try no longer will be available.

Tavern of Legends Stages

The quest has 10 stages, and the reward for completing each stage includes some Legends Coins.  You can get a summons from the Legends Summons Portal with 100 coins. The stage guides rotate and each is provided below. The enemies remain the same at each of the legends stages, at least so far.

During the event, you should come back and refer to this Tavern stages chart to plan out your attack teams for each level, especially the higher levels:
Stage Team Power World Energy Legends Coins Enemies
1 1800 4 10 Blue, Yellow
2 2100 4 10 Red, Yellow
3 2500 5 15 Red, Blue
4 2800 5 15 Red, Yellow
5 3200 6 20 Yellow
6 3500 6 20 Blue, Yellow
7 3800 7 25 Red, Yellow
8 4200 7 25 Red, Blue
9 4500 8 30 Yellow, Red
10 4600 10 40 Yellow, Blue

Stage Guides / Boss List

There appears to be a pattern of the Heroes of the Month that appear as bosses in the Tavern of Legends quests each month. They rotate between 4 sets of heroes. So, the stage guides for all the upcoming Legends quests are below.

Tips and Strategy for Hero Team Planning in Tavern of Legends

The trick to Hero Roster Mastery in this quest is to use your spare, lower level heroes in the early stages and then plan out your hero teams for the later stages.

Stages 1 and 2: Use Your Unleveled 4* and 5*s

I have found that you can defeat Stage 1 of the Tavern of Legends using unleveled 4* heroes, or mix in a few 5* Legendary heroes.  For Stage 2, use unleveled 5* heroes, and you can even mix in some unleveled 4* heroes. Those pesky TC20, Season 1 and other dupe 5* heroes collecting dust on the shelf finally have a purpose!

If you do not have enough unleveled 5* heroes, you can get away with unleveled 4* on Stage 1, and a mix of leveled 3*, and unleveled 5* on stage 2.

Stages 3 and 4: Use leveled 3*s and Partially leveled 4* and 5*

You can use your leveled 3* and partially leveled Epic and Legendary heroes to beat states 3 and 4.

Stages 5, 6 and 7: Use leveled 4* and 3/70 5*

Stages 5, 6, and 7 can be beaten using combinations of leveled Epic heroes, and level 3/70 Legendary heroes.  You can also put some leveled 3*, 3/60 4*, or 2/60 5* heroes into the mix.

Stages 8, 9 and 10: Leveled 5*, 4* and 3/70 5*

The final stages can be competitive, and this is where you use your good raid teams.  Typically these will include leveled up 4* and 5* heroes or some 3/70 5*.

Legendary Heroes Available in the Tavern of Legends Portal

In addition to quest game play, the purpose of Tavern of Legends is to give players a chance to get older Heroes of the Month.  Every HOTM that is from over a year ago becomes available through the ToL Portal.

Hel in the Legends Summons
Some of the older HOTM that are available in the Tavern of Legends are:
  • Hel
  • Athena
  • Alberich
  • Zeline
  • Alasie
  • Gravemaker
  • Drake Fong
  • Aegir
  • Kunchen
  • Onatel
  • Ranvir
  • Miki
You can figure out which are currently available by going to my full HOTM list, and looking at those that are older than a year old.  For example, if you want a second chance to get Vela or Telluria, they will become available in this event one year after their initial introductions.  For Vela that is in January 2021, and Telluria is in March 2021.

Legends Summons

Immediately after the Tavern of Legends event came into Empires & Puzzles it became controversial because of the summons appearance rates. However, they were fully updated in September 2020 to be more similar to other summon portals. Then, the summon rates were increased again in October 2020, to increase the Legendary HOTM. The current appearance rates for the ToL portal are:
  • Legendary Secret Hero (Myztero) Bonus Draw: 0.1%
  • Legendary Hero of the Month Bonus Draw: 1.3%
  • Legendary featured past HotM: 1.0%
  • Legendary past HotM: 0.9%, not including the featured HotM
  • Legendary Classic Hero: 0.6%
  • Epic Classic Hero: 26.5%
  • Rare Classic Hero: 71.0%.
You can run a Tavern of Legends summon simulator at All Heroes now. UPDATE: I've now updated the simulator to reflect the new portal, as revised in September and November 2020.

August 2020 Update to Summon Portal

With the Version 31 release in August 2020, the summon portal was changed.  First, the hero of the month was added, at the usual bonus draw chance of 1.3%.  Secondly, featured heroes were added in to the regular summon chances, making it more like an Atlantis or Valhalla pull.

Is Myztero Worth It?

I did a complete review and grading of Myztero, and you will see there that he's a lot of fun to use, but not game-changing.  You also get huge bragging rights if you get him, but don't expect your power will increase significantly.  You'll see at my full review that I graded Myztero as a _______ (Shhhhhhhhh its secret!  *wink*).

What do you think?  Is the Legends Summons worth it, or is it a pass?

It seems that in the March 21 Image the Bosses are different to what the table below tells

Regarding summons: may just a personal feeling rather than statistical proven but I got more 4 and 5 stars in Atlantis and valhalla than in tol
If you ask fir bunch of 3* to use or feed it’s still worth but I spend my gems rather in one of the others, especially in March I find the heroes not that crispy (except JF and Telluria) , but margareth and looking at the review of the secret one there might be better chances in future summons

Any info on December 2021's bosses for the Tavern of Legends? Annoyingly, I can't find this information anywhere... :-(

Also, is there any way to know beforehand which bosses a given event will feature? Or do we have to wait for other players to inform us every single time?
