Knights of Avalon Guide, Tips, Tricks - Empires and Puzzles Event

Knights of Avalon is one of the monthly Challenge Events in Empires & Puzzles. In this event, you have chance to get one of its special heroes, including Black Knight, who increasingly is being considered one of the top tanks in the game, if not the top tank. Each of the 5* Avalon heroes are good to excellent, but with the changing game meta, Black Knight, Lady of the Lake, and King Arthur are the most desired. Guinevere formerly was considered one of the best heroes in in the game, but has declined a lot recently.

As usual, even if you are not trying to summon heroes, doing well in this event gives you some of the best prizes in Empires and Puzzles.  This guide provides all the tips, and strategies for killing it in Knights of Avalon.

Use the Knights of Avalon Stage Guide

This stages chart lists all the stages of the Knights of Avalon (updated for July and December 2020). As with other challenge events, there are fifteen event stages, with enemy monsters that are purple, green or red, depending on the stage.

During the event, I come back here often and refer to this chart to plan out my attack teams for each level:

Tip: Know the Reflect Color - Blue / Ice

Tip: Don't Bring Blue / Ice Heroes For Your Attack Teams

Blue is the reflect color for Knights of Avalon.

All the blue monsters or bosses in this event reflect all direct damage from any Ice heroes you bring on your attack team.  That includes direct damage from special skills, minions or tile matches.  Damage over Time (DoT) is not reflected.

Knights of Avalon Strategy: Bring Heroes That Are Strong Against the Monsters in the Stage

Remember to refer to the Avalon stage guide above before putting together your team! All the stages have blue monsters except stages 12 and 14.  So, you should bring green heroes to be strong against blue / ice. Not everyone has a great green mono attack team, so you also can try doing mono teams of different colors or you can bring combinations of greens + another color using this chart:

Color Stages
Green or Yellow 1, 6, 7
Green or Red 2-5, 8-11
Green (preferred), Yellow, Purple 12, 14
Yellow, Red 13, 15

Strategy: Go Mono

To score high in Challenge Events, top players put together single-color teams.  For Knights of Avalon, the best strategy is to use green/Nature heroes on your attack teams, if you have good ones.  That works well for all stages except stages 13 and 15.

Stages 13 and 15 in Avalon have purple and red monsters, not green. For those stages, yellow/Holy and red/Fire mono attack teams could work particularly well.  If you want to vary things, or don't want to bother setting up different teams for just two stages, green is okay too, since it is a neutral color.

Trick: Play Fast, Make Big Combos

As with other challenge events, the way scoring works is you get extra points for finishing a level fast. You get even more points for making a lot of big combinations, and hitting diamonds. So play smart and fast!

You can only bring the right level of heroes for each level of gameplay:
  • Rare: 3* or lower heroes
  • Epic: 4* or lower
  • Legendary: 5* or lower

Bring Green Potions Against Merlin

Merlin casts a pesky special - Mindless Attack, in which you lose all your mana.  For three turns after Merlin has cast his special, the target will not cast its own special, but instead casts a "mindless attack" against one of its own allies, and loses all its mana. So if you have a hero on your team, and its mana fills up, instead of being able to fire its special, you lose the mana and you fire basically a normal attack on an ally.
The good news is green potions - antidotes - dispel Merlin's special. So bring a few on any stage where Merlin is one of the final stage bosses.  As of now, that includes stages 3, 9, 10 and 13 of the Avalon event.

Knights of Avalon Leaderboard

There are three separate leaderboards, one for each level of game play - Rare / Epic / Legendary in Challenge events, like Avalon. The top 4 tiers typically have enhanced prizes. So, scoring high in this event is definitely worthwhile.

Tips to Score High

Empires & Puzzles is a game after all, so scoring high is part of the fun!  Here are some great tips, tricks and strategies for scoring high in the event.
  • Bring Mono teams
  • Play fast
  • Make combos
  • USE THE REROLL TRICK: you can play a level as many times as you want.  So top players play each level until they get lucky and make many combos and diamonds.   Do that and your scores will soar! The downside is, of course, that involves a lot of world energy refills.  Some top players look at their initial board, and if they cannot make an immediate diamond, they flee and try again.
  • Bring high level battle items: those time stops, tornadoes, bomb attacks and battle axes come in handy for finishing off a wave of monsters, or for crashing the final stage.

Knights of Avalon Heroes and Grades

The Knights of Avalon Summons Portal features some of the best heroes in the game. I have ranked and graded them all, and let me know if you thing I need to make any adjustments with the grades. Each of the hero cards for the Avalon heroes is at the end.

Avalon Hero Level Grade
Black Knight 5* A+
Guinevere 5*B+
King Arthur 5* A
Lady of the Lake 5* A-
Morgan Le Fay 5* B
Merlin 4* B
Sir Lancelot 4* B-
Bauchan 3* B-
For the 4* and 3* heroes, I've graded them based on comparison with others 4* (or 3*).  So Sir Lancelot may be a "B-" for a 4*, but compared to a 5* he may be a C or D.

One note about Lady of the Lake - although I have rated her A-, I could easily rate her higher, and she's one of my favorite heroes in Empires & Puzzles. Do you think I should grade her higher?

Knights of Avalon Family Bonus

The Knights of Avalon heroes are part of the Avalon Family.  When used together, they get these family bonuses for 2/3/4/5 family heroes:
  • Healing Bonus: +4%/6%/9%/13%
  • Critical Chance Bonus: +5%/10%/15%/20%

These bonuses show up on the in-game tool tip on each Avalon hero card:

Very useful information. Thank you.

I disagree with the advice for using Green on Level 12 - I got waxed. Qith Gwen and Morgana - Red would be a better choice - or purple.

@David Vacchi sorry to hear Level 12 didn't work well for you. Sometimes RNG just gets you bad. If you feel like it, maybe take another shot at it. What team did you bring?

Telly, any idea when knights of Avalon is coming back?

@Unknown: I haven't heard anything, but if the old rotation is being followed, it Knights of Avalon should next appear in August.
